FP1476 : Modified foveola sparing inverse flap technique for lamellar macular holes – a retrospective series

Abstract

Study design – A retrospective case series.
Purpose – To assess the safety and efficacy of modified foveola sparing inverse flap technique for lamellar macular holes.
Methods – All medical records of patients with lamellar macular hole, who got operated by a single surgeon between March 2021 to March 2023 at a tertiary eye care centre, were analysed for visual gain and anatomical outcomes.
Technique- Modified inverse flap technique was used, where the flap was trimmed, close to the size of the hole, and no traction was given at the edges of the hole, in all cases. 25 Gauge MIVS with SF6 tamponade was done in all cases.
Results- 5 cases of lamellar macular hole were identified. The baseline vision of the 5 cases were 6/12 in 3 cases, 6/18 in one case with cataract and 6/24 in the fifth case with cataract. All cases had successful closure of lamellar macular hole with a minimum of one line gain in visual acuity.
Conclusion- Lamellar holes do get benefitted by surgical intervention.
