FP2446 : A RARE CASE OF INERT CORNEAL FOREIGN BODIES – AFTERMATH OF A GAS CYLINDER BLAST.

Abstract

PURPOSE:To present a case of multiple, inert, longstanding corneal foreign bodies due to gas cylinder blast.
METHOD:37 years old patient with history of gas cylinder blast injury to both eyes 5 years ago presented with multiple, painless subepithelial corneal foreign bodies in left eye.He underwent penetrating keratoplasty in right eye 4 years ago.Indiscriminate use of steroid drops after it led to open angle glaucoma in both eyes.Patient is on antiglaucoma medications since 1 year. RESULT:Multiple, inert subepithelial corneal foreign bodies in left eye coupled with steroid induced open angle glaucoma in both eyes. CONCLUSION:Corneal foreign bodies are common ocular injuries presenting with extreme pain. Those causing acute inflammation need timely intervention to prevent visual compromise. In this case, active intervention was not needed due to their inert nature.Since patient had good vision in both eyes,he was adviced to continue antiglaucoma medications with periodic followups.
