Abstract
Objectives:
To identify various etiological factors and visual outcome in paediatric ocular trauma presenting to OPD or emergency services.
Methodology:
A Prospective study of 100 children of age </=15 years with eye injuries and presented to OPD or emergency services. The best-corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, IOP and fundus examination were done.
Results:
The common Mode of Injury among the subjects, RTA-18%,13%-fall from height,13% Blunt injury, hit by ball in 10%.The most common Ocular trauma was SCH/Ecchymosis-34%, Corneal Abrasion/Laceration-22%,Lid Injuries-30%. Among the subjects, 24% had 6/60 followed by 19% had Fixing & following light and least 1% had 1/60. The difference between Visual acuity before and after treatment was statistically significant.
Conclusion:
Over time the visual acuity improved, highly dependent on the type and severity of the trauma.
