Abstract

Purpose: To study outcome of posterior fixated iris claw lens in pediatric aphakics if capsular support is inadequate. Method: 15 eyes studied in terms of preoperative and postoperative visual acuity at day 1, week 1, 6 weeks and 3 to 6 months. Outcomes of decentered IOL, raised intraocular pressure noted. Results: Average age at secondary iris claw implantation was 10.2 years. 14 eyes had iris claw implantation as secondary IOL procedure. 1 patient underwent IOL exchange. The preoperative best corrected visual acuity was 0.74+0.8 log units, intraocular pressure was 15.5+2. At 1 week, mean BCVA was 0.86+6.1,and 3 months 0.50+1.13. Mean pressure at 3 months 16+2.18. 15 eyes had clear cornea and IOL was centered by 6 weeks. Anti glaucoma drugs for 4 eyes, however, there was history of glaucoma in aphakia in 2 eyes. Conclusion: 3 to 6 months study of iris fixated IOL in pediatric aphakics is a safe method in terms of visual acuity, post operative corneal outcome and intraocular pressure.
