FP1719 : The Late Extraction – Dentigerous Cyst with Ectopic Canine Tooth simulating as Orbital Cellulitis

Abstract

A rare case of a 23 year old lady who presented with a painful swelling over the left lower eyelid. Lid edema and chemosis with limited abduction were noted. A suspicion of left orbital cellulitis was raised. A week later she presented with a well-defined swelling in the inferomedial aspect of left orbit. Lacrimal irrigation was patent.
A CT scan revealed a well-defined lesion with hypointense areas in the left inferomedial orbit, causing indentation and superotemporal displacement of the left globe, with a hyperdense structure noted within it.
An excision biopsy revealed a giant cyst with intracystic canine tooth. HPE confirmed the diagnosis.
An OPG was performed to look for the status of dentition, which revealed no abnormality. A confirmatory diagnosis of dentigerous cyst secondary to an ectopic canine tooth was made.
At 3 month post-operative follow-up, there was minimal scarring . Left Lacrimal drainage system was anatomically patent.
