FP0241 : A comparative study of outcomes of ROCM associated COVID-19: Globe salvage versus exenteration group

Abstract

This study aims to identify factors associated with the outcomes of ROCM in COVID-19 patients by comparing the Globe salvage and Globe exenteration groups. 46 eyes of 35 patients were included in this ambispective observational study. Their clinical profiles were recorded for statistical analysis. ROCM in recovered COVID-19 patients was higher (57.1%) The most common comorbidity was diabetes mellitus 82.9% with new-onset hyperglycemia in 17.1%. Complete ophthalmoplegia was noticed in 17.1%. Exenteration was done in 28.57% and mortality was 17.1%. Post exenteration ROCM regression was seen in 40% of patients. Globe removal patients had stage IV ROCM with RR = 7.2, 95% CI 2.91 to 18.00. The risk of Globe exenteration was 1.35 (0.7-2.29) times higher in recovered COVID-19 and mortality was 1.76 (0.72-3.36) times higher in active COVID-19.
Close follow-up of recovered COVID-19 patients with prompt medical and surgical attention is needed to reduce morbidity and mortality in ROCM.
