FP2321 : Effectivity of subtenon injection Mitomycin-C (0.005%) in Trabeculectomy / phaco-trab .surgery

Abstract

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of subtenon injection of Mitomycin-C (0.005%) in trabeculectomy or phaco-trab surgeries METHODS: 84 eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma, angle closure glaucoma and PEX glaucoma underwent trabeculectomy / phaco trab with the 0.005% subtenon's injection of MMC.Data was collected on postop 1 day, 1 week, 1,3 & 6 months. IOP ,AC depth, Bleb characteristics, additional medication, need for ocular massage, removal of releasable suture or an additional injection of 5 fluorouracil were noted.RESULTS: All the parameters studied above showed a significant improvement at 6 months. 2 patients had choroidal detachment which resolved over subsequent follow up. CONCLUSION: Subtenon injection of mitomycin-C in a dose of 0.005%, in trabeculectomy or phaco-trabeculectomy surgeries is effective in lowering the intraocular pressure and achieving good bleb morphology
