Abstract

Study Design – Retrospective observational study
Purpose – To study the incidence, associated risk factors, and outcomes of pupillary block glaucoma(PBG) in phakic and Pseudophakic eyes after vitreoretinal surgery.
Method :- : Study of 61 patients presenting with PBG following vitreoretinal surgery at a tertiary center in South India between January 2015 to December 2019
Result – Incidence of PBG was 0.87%. Median(IQR) time of onset of PBG following vitreoretinal surgery (VR surgery) was 3.33(1.1- 6.6) months. The associated risk factors include diabetes mellitus, combined cataract + VR surgery, intraoperative use of 1000 Cs silicone oil endotamponade and endolaser, and multiple VR surgeries.
Conclusion – Management of PBG occurring after VR procedure is complex with most resolving with laser PI and a few requiring interventions like surgical iridectomy, silicone oil removal, trabeculectomy and diode laser cyclophotocoagulation.
