Abstract
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY : Assessment of vitamin D levels in dry eye patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study which was carried out at Department of Ophthalmology. 63 patients having dry eye were taken into the study. All patients underwent systemic and complete ophthalmic examination.
RESULTS: The mean age of all the cases was 64.10 years and the male to female ratio in it was 27:36. Out of total 63 cases of dry eye patient 44 patients had some of other type of cataract. The mean Schirmer’s test and TBUT scores in them were 15.96 mm and 10.84 secs respectively. A positive association was found between vitamin D levels and the prevalence of dry eyes. The mean serum vitamin D levels was found to be 16.69.
CONCLUSION: Timely correction of vitamin D levels can severely decrease the morbidity and will improve the overall quality of life.
