Abstract
Tick infestation is rarely seen in ophthalmological practice. Here we report a case of a five-year-old female who presented with pain and edema of eyelids of right eye along with a nodule like mass on the lateral side of lower eyelid. On slit lamp examination it appeared like a blackish mass firmly attached to the lower lid margin. It was successfully removed with the help of forceps and within a few days the patient successfully recovered. The patient had a history of exposure to rabbits.
Ticks are known to be major threat to public health as they act as vectors of many infectious agents that cause serious diseases like Lymes disease. They also cause severe local reactions and may lead to tick paralysis rarely. Since morbidity increases with the duration of infestation the tick should be removed as soon as possible and the people should be made aware of the possible signs and consequences of tick related diseases.
