Abstract
Study Design-Cross sectional study
Purpose-1.To determine the prevalence of Pterygium and to study the associated risk factors of Pterygium.
2. To estimate the strength of association of each risk factor.
Method-Patients reporting to Ophthalmology OPD willing to
participate in the study will be included.
Written Informed Consent will be taken.Detailed history covering personal, occupational and history of any comorbidity will be taken.A proforma will be used to collect, segregate and analyse the information and risk factors from the study population.Detailed ophthalmic examination of the patient will be done to note the type of Pterygium.
Result-Prevalence of pterygium was 12.8%.The strength of association is maximum with Illiteracy(76.8), astigmatism(42.2), lower socio-economic status(15.8) and in patient's using anti-glaucoma drugs (9.9).
Conclusion- Pterygium can be prevented with help of personal hygiene, protection in the form of caps, hats, umbrellas, spectacles or goggles.
