FP0484 : Prevalence and Severity of Dry Eye among medical students in West Bengal using OSDI questionnaire

Abstract

Study Design: Cross-sectional study
Purpose: To assess prevalence and severity of Dry Eye among medical students in Bankura, WB; a hot and dry place, and association with screen time.
Methods: Based on prevalence of 32% from previous study [PMCID: PMC5819096], sample size of 92 was taken. Participants were given the OSDI questionnaire; also possible risk factor status like mobile/laptop usage, contact lens usage and air conditioner exposure were recorded. OSDI score were categorised for students with dry eye as mild (13–22), moderate (23–32), and severe (>33 points)
Results: Among 92 students studied, dry eye was seen in 38 (41.3%); among which, 23 (25%) had mild, 10 (10.9%) had moderate, and 5 (5.4%) had severe dry eye. OSDI score >13 was seen in 21 out of 45 (46.7%) of students using mobile/laptop for >6 hours/day.
Conclusion: Prevalence of dry eye was 41.3% with 25% mild, 10.9% moderate, 5.4% severe dry eye. Among students using mobile/laptop for >6 hours/day, 46.7% had dry eye.
