FP2336 : combined BRAO-BRVO – a clinical entity often misdianosed

Abstract

Aim; To report the clincal features of combined BRAO-BRVO often mistakenly labelled BRVO alone
Materials & Methods ; a prospective observational study of 15 patients presenting with blurred vision and seen to have blotchy retinal quandrantic haemorhages, occluded arterioles or twigs in the involved quadrant with box carring , poorer vision at presentation with retinal pallor, complete capillary drop out in the involved area & a clear demarcation between perfused & nonperfused retina on FFA. Sectorial laser and/or anti VEGF injections were needed in 13 patients
Results: all patients had at least one or more co morbid systemic conditions prothrombotic ststes viz. ANA positivity, hyperhomocystinemia & APLA positivity was seen in a total of 9 patients
Conclusions Combined BRAO-BRVO is often misdiagnosed as BRVO alone.Reading the fine prints on the FFA as also the clinical features outlined above point to a combined pathology which has therapeutic & prognostic implications unlike BRVO alone
