Abstract
Purpose -To elucidate a rare presentation of Valsalva retinopathy in a 45 year old male following strenuous field work , with an emphasis on its clinical manifestations and diagnostic findings .
Case Presentation
A 45 year old male with no significant prior medical or surgical history experienced a sudden painless decline in left eye vision since 5 days after intense fieldwork .
Examination revealed a vision of 6/9 in right eye and 6/60 in left eye.LE Anterior segment examination was normal.LE fundus examination displayed a normal optic disc with a CDR of 0.3 .Multiple large dark colored hemorrhages were observed along blood vessels sparing the macula .
Over 3 weeks the haemorrhages reduced ,improving the vision in LE to 6/24
Comprehensive systemic evaluation including CBC, peripheral smear , ESR , RBS, BP, ECG , carotid doppler ,2D echo were normal.
Conclusion-Valsalva Retinopathy is a rare condition characterized by preretinal haemorrhages in retina due to strenuous activity.
