Prospective Interventional Cohort Study
Purpose:
To assess the efficacy of acclerated PACK-CXL (9 mW/cm2 for 10 minutes) as an adjunct treatment in the cases of therapy-resistant infectious keratitis.
Methods:
15 patients with drug-resistant infectious corneal ulcers were treated with accelerated PACK-CXL after day 5 of standard medical management of infectious keratitis. They are followed up for 1 month and evaluated for signs of improvement.
Results
We did not confront any adverse events of accelerated PACK-CXL on the corneal stroma or limbus. Around 80% cases did not show any improvement in visual acuity or reduction in infiltrate size.
Conclusions
We were unable to confirm a significant benefit to adjuvant-accelerated CXL in the reduction of infectious keratitis.
