Abstract
Study design -retrospective PurposeWe analysed the visual outcome and graft clarity following sequential bilateral paediatric penetrating keratoplasty for corneal dystrophies. Methods Case records of 16 paediatric
patients with corneal dystrophy who underwent bilateral PKP between August 2016 to June 2019 with one year follow up post PKP were reviewed and analysed.
ResultsMean age was 13.7 ± 4.46
years. The indications for bilateral PKP was most commonly CHED 75% followed by macular dystrophy 25%.
The mean pre, post operative vision was 1.504±0.584, 0.813± 0.551 log MAR (P<0.001). Clear grafts were seen
in 28 (87.5%) of the eyes and graft failure secondary to endothelial rejection was seen in 4(12.5%) of the eyes at
1 year. Graft rejection was the most common complication. Number of rejection in the first operated
eyes increased after second eye PKP ( P=0.005). ConclusionWe observed
good visual outcome with 75% bilateral clear graft post PKP at one year follow up in our study.
