Abstract

This video acts as a handy guide on surgical loupes for all surgeons who perform extraocular surgeries and includes first-hand surgeon experiences and anecdotes. It seeks to answer the question “how do I choose my loupes?” Inputs have been captured from practicing surgeons on their experiences with (or without) using surgical loupes. Thereafter the advantages and disadvantages of surgical loupes are described with appropriate references to literature. For practical applicability a detailed demonstration of the effect of magnification working distance and loupe designs on the user’s experience and type of surgery to be performed is provided. Light is shed on additional light sources and price points. Overall the video is a compilation of both anecdotal and technical aspects which hopes to promote better use of this indispensable tool among surgeons for clean precise and superior surgical outcomes.
