Study-Prospective analytical study
Purpose-Identify causes, demographic and clinical profile of ocular injuries in school going children. Evaluate final visual outcome& prevention of visual loss.
Methods-Study was done in 60 patients from December 2022 to May 2023. Detailed trauma history, pre-existing ocular & medical disease was recorded. Visual acuity by Snellen's chart, Slit lamp examination, IOP whenever possible, Direct or indirect ophthalmoscopy , gonioscopy if required, radiological investigations, B-scan in patients suspected to have posterior segment abnormality
Result:Peak incidence of ocular trauma was between the age group of 11-15 yrs. boys:girls 9:2, most of the ocular injuries were due to accidental fall. Vision loss was more common in injuries due to RTA. Closed globe injuries were far more frequent. Optic nerve injury & globe rupture was associated with extremely poor visual prognosis.
Conclusion:Ocular trauma is the leading cause of monocular blindness in the world.
