Abstract
.Aim of the study is to analyse the presentation, diagnosis, management strategies and prognosis of delayed diagnosed cases of intraorbital foreign bodies (IOrFB). Methods: Retrospective interventional case series of 18 IOrFB treated by surgical exploration in a tertiary eye hospital over 6 years. Mode of injury, foreign body , clinical features, imaging modality, time lapse between incidence and diagnosis, prognosis reviewed .Results : Mean age33.55years , M>F (16:2). The median presentation was 6.5weeks. 6/18 of had organic (bamboo/wood), 9/18 metal. Mean time lapse to diagnose organic FB was 11.28 weeks . 55.5% had DOV, 38.8% discharge, and 27.7% diplopia .Work place injuries leading cause (38.88%) f/b RTA(27.7%) . CT-scan confirmed diagnosis in 61%, MRI was diagnostic in 71%.intraconal site 8 (44%), extraconal 10 . 88% patients had favorable visual outcome after surgical removal.
conclusion : majority of delayed IOrFB can be salvaged by proper diagnosis and intervention
