Abstract
In this prospective study, 1000 eyes of 502 patients, under 45 years with CDVA of 20/20 or greater, underwent SMILE using the Visumax 800 femtosecond laser by a single experienced surgeon using a standard technique. Patients were followed up on postoperative day 1, 15, and at 3 months. Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity, manifest refraction, slit lamp examination, topography, tomography, abberometry and objective scatter index were evaluated. Mean pre-op spherical equivalent was -4.245+/-1.91D and mean pre-op cylinder was -1+/-0.53D. Mean pre-op CDVA was -0.052+/-0.05 LogMAR. Mean post-op CDVA at 3 months was -0.084+/- 0.067 LogMAR. Spherical equivalent in 99% of eyes are within +/-0.5D at 3 months. The efficacy index and safety index were 1.23 and 1.08 respectively. No intraoperative complications were noted.
The Visumax 800, with surgeon-supporting functions for centration and cyclotorsion adjustment, showed excellent visual outcomes in terms of efficacy and safety.
