FP0489 : Use of sodium tetradecyl sulphate in managing orbito palpebral cyst as alternative for surgery

Abstract

Purpose :To evaluate the efficacy of sodium tetradecyl sulphate as sclerosing agent in patients with orbito-palpebral cysts as an alternative for surgical intervention.
Method :– retrospective interventional case series of 7 cases of orbito-palpebral cyst with age more then 10 year who were treated with fluid aspiration followed by injection of sodium tetradecyl sulphate. Resolution of cyst was the main outcome measure. After resolution socket reconstruction followed by customized ocular prosthesis placement was done.
Result :Total 7 patients (5 male and 2 female) with mean age 21 years were included in the study. All 7 patients underwent fluid aspiration with injection of sodium tetradecyl sulphate into the cyst. Six out of seven patients showed complete cyst resolution.
Conclusion :– Injection of sodium tetradecyl sulphate as sclerosant is very easy and effective, can be used for resolution of orbito-palpebral cysts with no to minimal side effects.
