Abstract
STUDY DESIGN
Analytical cross-section study
PURPOSE
To compare refractive outcomes and efficacy of Barrett Universal-II (BU-II) and SRK/T using immersion ultrasound vs optical biometry
METHODS
100 patients with senile immature cataracts were randomized into immersion ultrasound (n = 50) and Optical (n = 50) biometry groups respectively. Patients in each group were further subdivided into two subgroups (SRK/T and BU-II) with 25 in each group. After a comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation, biometry was performed in both groups using both formulae. Paired T-test and independent sample T-test were used to analyse predicted and obtained errors in both groups.
RESULT
There was a significant difference in postoperative BCVA when IOL power was calculated using the BU-II formula (p<0.05) with optical biometry
CONCLUSION
The BU-II formula provides better predictability of IOL power calculation than the SRK/T formula & is also more accurate when calculated using optical biometry
