FP1149 : Surgical outcomes in pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment- A comparative study

Abstract

Design: Retrospective comparative case series.
Aim: To study anatomical and functional outcomes in pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD)
Method: RRD in subjects less than 18years from 2017-2022 with 2 years followup included. Underwent scleral buckle (SB)/ Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and encirclage(PPV-encirclage)/ PPV alone or PPV-short term PFCL endotamponade (PPV-PFCL). Demography, Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA), re-surgery and complications recorded. Final outcome defined as success and failure
Results:288 eyes with mean age 12.6±4.4 years, 83.3% males, 40% post-traumatic. Total RRD in 66%, Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy(PVR)>C in 44.1% (74.6% PPV-PFCL vs 42.6% PPV-encirclage, p<0.001). Success in SB 71.1%, PPV-encirclage 91.5%, PPV alone 71.3% and 68.7% PPV-PFCL. Median BCVA change from 2 to 1.5logMAR at 2years (p< 0.001). Re-surgery, complications comparable in all PPV groups
Conclusion:Success in all techniques comparable, PPV-PFCL may be beneficial in PVR>C
