FP0188 : Safety and efficacy of injection Aflibercept intravitrealy in Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)

Abstract

Purpose: To study the safety and efficacy of injection Aflibercept, an anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth factor in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). Methods: This was a retrospective interventional consecutive case series of 22 eyes treated with intravitreal injection of Aflibercept for Threshold ROP and Aggressive-ROP (AROP). All eyes received 1 mg/0.025 ml injection Aflibercept under sterile precaution. Results: Aflibercept was effective in regression of ROP in all 22 eyes (100%) at 1 week following the injection. In 6 eyes (27.2%) required 2nd injection and 18 eyes (81.8 %) received laser treatment. One eye (4.5%) required vitrectomy surgery. Mean time interval between laser and injection was 8.8 weeks (5-16 weeks) and 1st and 2nd injection 6.3 weeks (2-9 weeks). None showed complete vascularisation or any complications. Conclusion: Intravitreal Aflibercept was effective in regression of severity of ROP initially but there are chances of recurrence needing repeat injection and laser.
