VT0075 : Siderotic Cataract- Taking Risks to see the unexpected

Abstract

Presenting a video of surgical removal of a siderotic cataract in a young patient. Unlike the routine cases of phacoemulsification in senile and presenile cataracts, siderotic cataract poses unique challenges. They include incomplete capsulorrhexis, lens material stuck to the capsule and possibility of zonular or posterior capsular weakness. This interesting video shows how each step was approached carefully and the surgery was completed without any complications. It also discusses pre-operative and post-operative management in these cases for optimal visual results.
