VT0617 : Full thickness macular hole after silicone oil removal post successful retinal reattachment surgery

Abstract

A 52-year-old woman presented to us with a full thickness macular (FTMH), diameter of 544 microns and epiretinal membrane (ERM) in her right eye (RE). At the time of presentation, her best corrected visual acuity was 6/60 in the RE. She was operated for retinal detachment (RD) in the same eye 6 months back. Silicone oil removal (SOR) surgery has also been done 3 months back. Her retina was stable even till silicone oil removal. She developed macular hole after SOR. We planned re vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling and C3F8 gas tamponade. After 2 months, her BCVA improved to 6/36 and optical coherence tomography showed type II macular hole closure. Formation of FTMH is relatively uncommon after SOR surgery. Sometimes, managing FTMH cases when associated with ERM is tricky as the staining of ILM becomes cumbersome due to the presence of ERM. Here, we tend to present a rare of macular hole formation following silicone oil removal surgery.
