VT0447 : Overcoming challenges of capsulotomy in Anterior Lenticonus using Femtosecond Laser and Zepto-PPC

Abstract

We describe the case of a young male with bilateral anterior lenticonus and Alport syndrome, who underwent clear lens extraction in both eyes for visual rehabilitation. Clear lens extraction is an effective means of rehabilitating visually symptomatic patients of anterior lenticonus due to Alport syndrome. Manual continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC) is difficult in anterior lenticonus due to the increased fragility and elasticity of the capsule. During clear lens extraction, femtosecond laser was used in one eye to do the capsulotomy while Zepto Precision Pulse Capsulotomy (PPC) was done in the contralateral eye. In the video, we describe the surgical tips and tricks for using these technologies for capsulotomy in anterior lenticonus. We also highlight the advantages of each over the other.
