VT0332 : "CONQUERING THE CAPSULES" – Paediatric Capsulorhexis simplified

Abstract

A successful outcome in paediatric Cataract surgery is determined by an intact and curvilinear anterior and posterior capsulorhexis. A well performed rhexis helps in maintaining clear visual axis and centered IOL for life. Anterior capsulorhexis can be done either manually using cystitome or intraocular forceps under high density viscoelastic agents or by using vitrectorhexis. The invention of Femto and Zepto has made anterior paediatric capsulorhexis more simpler. Posterior capsulorhexis has different shades to its performance- Manually using forceps, vitrectorhexis, capsulorhexis pre and post placement of intraocular lens . In the absence of hard nucleus , capsulorhexis remains a crucial step in paediatric cataract surgery. Through this video we highlight different techniques which provide tips and tricks for a intact and adequate capsulorhexis in paediatric cataract .
