VT0302 : Sub-Silicon Oil ERM removal: a newer technique for early postoperative ERM

Abstract

Epiretinal membranes (ERM) are very common after vitrectomy especially RD surgeries. Vit with silicon oil often unable to restrict its development. Oil removal and ERM peeling may be a choice but usually delayed till retina is stably attached. For early membranes, ERM removal under the silicon oil, keeping the oil in situ has a great potential of visual improvement. Also, it doesn’t hamper the natural healing process and maintains good tamponade effect. In this video, a newer technique of ERM removal under the silicon oil is being demonstrated in 7 eyes. The purpose is to perform ERM removal without removing the oil for a better visual outcome even if Retina is unstable during early post operative period. The procedure uses 2 ports instead of three i.e., without the infusion system. Simple membrane peeling forceps was used and the oil was left in situ intact. At the end a droplet of intravitreal triamcinolone was injected for better and quick recovery.
