Abstract
Proliferative Vitreo-Retinopathy (PVR) is the most common cause of failed surgical repair of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD). Removal of subretinal bands and specifically “napkin ring” band around the optic disc is considered an inevitable, albeit challenging step. 60-year-old male presented with features of Chronic total RRD with extensive PVR changes and subretinal bands. This video features a unique outlandish technique of subretinal gliotic band removal via subretinal approach without retinotomy. A 25 gauge valved port was furnished 10mm from the limbus into the subretinal plane and all the subretinal bands in periphery and around the optic disc were removed meticulously, ultimately resulting in adequate reattachment. An innovative technique portraying a perfect admixture of skill with creativity, this unorthodox approach is a long-lost art, which can be resurfaced in the current vitreo-retinal practice in complicated surgical scenarios.
