VT0222 : Autologous Retinal Transplant for Refractory Macular Hole & Retinal Detachment

Abstract

A patient had undergone two previous failed surgeries for a macular hole, then developed total retinal detachment and subsequent re-detachment after the removal of silicone oil. The patient was scheduled for a Retinal autografting procedure. During the graft harvesting process, a pedicle was left attached, and a partial FAX was performed to prevent the graft from freely floating. PFCL was not used; instead, the graft was transferred under air. The graft was then tucked beneath the edges of the macular hole using the open end of an ILM forceps. Following this, a bimanual silicone oil injection was performed, and pressure was gently applied to the graft using closed ILM forceps to prevent any displacement of the graft under the silicone oil. Subsequent evaluations via serial OCT scans confirmed the successful closure of the macular hole. The patient has achieved a visual acuity of 6/36p under silicone oil.
