Abstract
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive degeneration of the retina, leading to vision loss. Ciliary body cysts are a rare occurrence in RP patients, and their association with RP is not well understood. Vitreous cysts occur in RP, transluscent. We present a case of RP with a ciliary body cyst. Vitrectomy with cyst excision was performed as the patient was symptomatic and had visual disturbances secondary to cyst. The procedure involved the removal of the vitreous humor and the cyst.
Ciliary body cysts are rare clinical entities that can occur in normal eyes or in eyes with other pathologies. Surgical excision is the preferred treatment approach for symptomatic cysts which involves vitrectomy and cyst excision. During the surgery its important to identify the contents of the cyst to further differentiate with a cysticercosis cyst as in latter cases in toto removal is the ideal approach followed by complete systemic examination and neuroimaging.
