Abstract
Posteriorly retained intraocular foreign body (RIOFB) following open globe injury may be associated with cataractous changes in the lens. Management in these patients depends on the grade of cataract, availability of anterior segment surgeon, proficiency of posterior segment surgeon in performing cataract extraction and availability of equipment. In the following video, we describe the management of posterior RIOFB in two patients using a combined approach with implantation of a 3-piece IOL with optic capture at the end of surgery. Case 1 is a 10-year old child with a total cataract and RIOFB confirmed on imaging with signs of siderosis on the anterior capsule of the lens. The patient underwent a succesful combined surgery with IOFB extraction and implantation of IOL. Case 2 is a 45-year old male with RIOFB associated with an inferior retinal detachment. The patient underwent a succesful encirclage with phacoemulsification with Vitrectomy for IOFB extraction and IOL implantation.
