Abstract

This patient with optic disc pit was treated with posterior pole ilm peeling without dislodging the flap near disc and stuffing it inside optic disc pit , followed by pfcl over it
RESULTS: We show optic disc pit surgery with mean visual acuity improving from <6/60 to 6/18 and structural resolution of SRF on oct.Discussions : Optic disc pits are congenital defects arising from the failure of fetal fissure closure in embryogenesis. They are mostly unilateral, solitary, ovoid, grey-white excavation of the optic disc most commonly in the inferotemporal quadrant of the nerve head. They may cause arcuate field defects , enlarged blind spot , macular involvement can be present either as serous retinal detachment, retinal schisis or cystoid macular oedema which leads to marked reduction in visual acuity .
Origin of fluid in subretinal space is by direct communication of subretinal space with subarachnoid space causing transudation of cerebrospinal fluid.
