Abstract
Study design: Observational
Purpose: Simple innovations and Do it yourself hacks that can be practiced by ophthalmic assistants, fellows and junior consultants before a live experience on patient's eye.
Methods: These DIY innovations were made using hospital waste products like used gloves, used keratomes, old and broken trial lenses, waste viscoelastic, suture sponges, carbon paper, surgical tape, old bottle caps, used masks and colored toothpaste.
Results: We were able to practice procedures like measuring IOP (Icare, tonopen, applanation), CCT, Laser suturolysis, Laser iridotomy, AC Decompression, bleb needling, wet lab practice for scleral flap, flap suturing.
Conclusions: We believe these DIY hacks can prove to be a major learning tool in glaucoma management.
Clinical implication: With growing technologies, every surgeon needs to be well trained to give the best surgical outcomes to the patients. These DIY hacks hope to bridge theoretical and practical aspect of glaucoma management.
