Abstract
Understanding when and how to implant glaucoma drainage devices (GDD) is pivotal in achieving successful outcomes. Selecting appropriate patients for GDD implantation needs meticulous clinical examination and thorough understanding of the principles of GDD. The choice between trabeculectomy Vs GDD, valved Vs non-valved tubes, patch Vs patch-free tubes, tube location, and associated intraoperative modifications must be carefully considered to achieve the best clinical results while minimizing complications. Postoperative assessment of the position and tube patency by various clinical and imaging modalities is important. GDD have their own unique set of complications. We present here a simplified approach to understand these and manage them appropriately. By addressing these aspects comprehensively, our video aims to empower the clinicians with adequate knowledge to be able to achieve good outcomes with GDD.
