VT0011 : Seeing beyond the surface-Assessment of visual potential in children with cerebral visual impairment

Abstract

Understanding the visual potential of a child with cerebral visual impairment (CVI) is of paramount importance as the visual stimulus helps in sensorimotor development. However, clinically assessing various visual functions like visual status, binocularity and visual fields is a challenge. Present video shows methods of checking the visual functions of a child with CVI. Change in the visual behavior over time is also shared in the video. The behavioral clues form a vital part of clinical visual assessment. It will also show important investigations and commonly found results in the same. Proper assessment of visual functions helps a long way in multidisciplinary management of these children.
