IC0054 : Cataract in previously operated eyes:Handle with care

Abstract

Cataract in eyes with repaired open globe injuries and eyes post glaucoma, vitreoretinal, keratoplasty, refractive surgeries and after intravitreal injections have different patterns of onset, progression, complications and outcomes.Cataract surgery in these eyes are always challenging because of more risk of complications in these previously operated sick eyes. They require meticulous evaluation and planning, proper biometry & IOL power calculation, particularly in repaired, keratoplasty,lasik/rk and silicone oil filled eyes.It requires gentle as well as safe approach in post trab, keratoplasty, post vr and post injection cataract to avoid injury to endothelium and bleb, posterior capsule rent, nucleus drop etc.Post operative care also demands bit different approach because of chances of refractive surprise, graft failure, bleb scarring, retinal detachment in some of these cases. This course will highlight how to overcome these challenges to get best possible outcome.
