IC0052 : Recognising Glaucoma Masqueraders:Multi-Subspecialty Insights

Abstract

In this course, glaucoma, retina, ophthalmic pathologist and neuro-ophthalmology specialists will provide practical guides on how to recognise glaucoma masqueraders on optical coherence tomography (OCT). The discussion will focus on findings that mimic glaucoma, from common OCT artifacts to retinal and neuro-ophthalmological conditions that affect the optic nerve cupping and thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layers. At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to detect (1)real disease from red & green disease (2) understand the pathophysiology of the optic nerve cupping from glaucoma, retinal and neurological conditions, (3) recognize common OCT artifacts that mimic glaucoma,(4) detect common neurological conditions causing the optic nerve cupping and OCT findings that mimic glaucoma and (5) distinguish between glaucoma and common retinal conditions that cause glaucomatous-like OCT abnormalities.
