Abstract
Primary angle closure glaucoma is a rapidly blinding disease and is of significant public health importance. The lens is considered to play an important role in the development of primary angle closure disease. Removal of the lens when cataractous is considered acceptable clinical practice and can help to control the IOP. However, the viewpoints differ when it comes to the removal of the crystalline lens in the absence of a cataract. This course will deal with the anatomy of the eye in PACG, the role of the lens thickness, evidence in favour of lens extraction and the technique of lens extraction with shallow anterior chamber in a patient of PACG. In addition, the question of whether lens extraction alone or with glaucoma surgery is more effective will be answered. Case presentations and interactive discussions will be done on the nuances and way forward.
