GP0107 : Prognosticate retina: predicting long term prognosis in retinal diseases at presentation

Abstract

Dr.G. V. N. Rama Kumar

Vitreo-retinal disorders have been perceived as having poor prognosis for many years. Advances in last 2-3 decades including OCT, anti VEGF injections, microincisional VR surgical techniques have changed this perception in recent times. Even now, most of the presentations and publications address the diagnostic challenges, treatment strategies and surgical techniques and there is less attention given to prognostication. This instruction course is designed to analyse factors that can predict prognosis at the time of first presentation of the disease. The course covers not only common retinal disorders like rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, AMD and vein occlusions but also various heredomacular degenerations to assist in planning the future life of patients. As necessitated by the topic, care is taken that the instructors have at least 10 years of experience in the field.
