Abstract

Subliminal cyclophotocoagulation (Vitra 810, Quantel) was done for 27 glaucoma patients to study the IOP-reducing efficacy and complications. The BCVA, IOP, and number of topical drugs were noted on days 1, 7, 30, 90, and 180. Median IOP reduction of 6 mmHg was seen at six months post-laser (Pre-laser:22[18,28]mmHg, Post-laser:16[14,18]mmHg; P<.001). AGMs decreased from an average of 3 to 2 at six months. Reduction of at least one drug was seen in 61.5% of treated eyes. Common complications were mydriasis (33%) and transient drop in visual acuity (55%). Three patients experienced serious complications: vitritis, vitreous hemorrhage, and choroidal detachment, that was successfully treated. The cumulative success was 76.88% at 3 months and 84.61% at 6 months. Therefore, subliminal cyclophotocoagulation can effectively reduce IOP and medication burden in glaucoma patients, potentially improving their quality of life
