FP0841 : KNOWLEDGE,ATTITUDE & PRACTICE IN PARENTS OF AMBLYOPIC CHILDREN AND PROVIDING RELEVANT EDUCATION.

Abstract

Objectives:To estimate parents’ knowledge about Amblyopia and its effects on their child’s development and to fill up the gaps in their existing concepts.
Methods:Cross sectional questionnaire-based study on parents accompanying children aged 5–15 years diagnosed as Amblyope for the first time.Same questionnaire was administered before and after an informative video regarding Amblyopia to assess the difference in K,A,P.
Results:BEFORE THE VIDEO:KNOWLEDGE-Basic knowledge about the entity-0%,causes-14.8%,symptoms-18%,risk factors 21.3%,complications 0%,treatment 11.4%.ATTITUDE-13.1% knew when to take the child for a visit to the ophthalmologist,14.7% knew that amblyopia can be prevented.PRACTICE-16.4% knew that it is reversible,14.8% knew the treatment options,6.6% could tell the age upto which amblyopia can be treated and 93.4% knew the amount of time they would need to spend with their child for treatment.
AFTER THE VIDEO-All the 3 categories showed significant improvement.
