Abstract
Study design:Retrospective observational study
Purpose:Determine effectiveness of treatment of non-infectious Paediatric uveitis in the era of immunosuppressants and newer biologicals
Methods:27 paediatric patients who presented for review from February 2023 to April 2023 were compared with 27 adults taken at random during same time period
Results:Mean age at presentation in paediatric population was 9.30 years and 40.67 years in adults. Mean time from presentation to starting IMS when needed was 7.34 months, if changed to second IMS it was 19.38 months and if newer biological was needed it was 19.50 months. Most of the paediatric population had active uveitis at final visit (59.3%) but adults were mostly inactive (66.7%). Most common cause of recurrent inflammation were the IMS not being effective (44.4%)
Conclusion: Paediatric uveitis is difficult to manage therefore highlighting the need for aggressive treatment protocols with slow tapering of medication to achieve control.
