Abstract
Aim: To develop the first normative database of the thickness of every inner retinal layer in the macular area in a healthy, adult, Indian population using Spectralis™ (Heidelberg Engineering) Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Material and Methods: On this transverse observational study, 183 patients, all above 18 years of age and without any ophthalmological condition were recruited. Macular OCT scans were performed on all patients. The volumes and thicknesses of the different macular sectors of the inner retinal layers [RNFL, GCL and IPL] were analyzed. Results: The mean age was 37.76yrs. The multivariate analysis was done. The mean central retinal thickness was 258.44µm and the corresponding volume was 8.49mm3, the mean central RNFL thickness was 11.28µm and the corresponding volume was 0.85mm3, the mean central GCL thickness was 12.91µm and the corresponding volume was 1.10mm3 and the mean central IPL thicknesswas 19.05µm and the corresponding volume was 0.90mm3.
