Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate predictors of outcome after corneal graft rejections.
Methods: Prospective non-randomized longitudinal study included 51 eyes treated for graft rejections. The indications included PBK (11), healed HSK (16), opaque grafts (21) and corneal ulcer (3). Type of surgery included primary (29), combined (6) and redo (16). Central graft thickness (CGT) was measured using ASOCT on day 1, one, two, four, eight and twelve weeks of treatment. Risk factors were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression analysis.
Results: There was no influence of the donor demographic factors such as age, death enucleation interval, death preservation time, death surgery time and ECD. Age, sex, indications, type of surgery, CGT on day 1 and % decrease in CGT were found significant factors (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: This study elucidates age, sex, indications, type of surgery, CGT at presentation and % decrease in CGT as strong predictors of treatment outcome of graft rejection.
