Abstract

Study design: Prospective interventional study. Purpose: To find the safety & efficacy of subtenon injection of Mitomycin-C during trabeculectomy in terms of postoperative complications and IOP lowering capacity, respectively. Methods: All patients were evaluated for glaucoma. Preoperative IOP was measured. They were posted for trabeculectomy augmented with a subtenon injection of 0.01% Mitomycin-C. Postoperative examination and IOP measurement were done on day one, 1st week, one month, three months and six months follow-up. Results: 27 eyes were enrolled with 10 Primary angle closure diseases, 9 primary open-angle, 5 normal-tension glaucoma, and 3 pseudoexfoliation glaucoma. The average IOP reduction at 6 months was 59.37%. 5 patients had postoperative IOP elevation, which was effectively managed with a short period of antiglaucoma medication. Conclusion: This procedure, using low-dose mitomycin-c as a subtenon injection is both safe and efficacious in effectively controlling glaucoma
