Abstract
THIS PROSPECTIVE INTERVENTIONAL COMPARATIVE STUDY WAS DONE IN A TERTIARY EYE HOSPITAL TO COMPARE THE VISUAL OUTCOME AND EFFICACY OF OPPOSITE CLEAR CORNEAL INCISION VERSUS TORIC IOL IMPLANTATION IN CORRECTING PREEXISTING REGULAR CORNEAL ASTIGMATISM OF 1-3D IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING PHACOEMULSIFICATION. 60 EYES WERE RECRUITED AND RANDOMISED INTO 2 GROUPS. GROUP 1 AND GROUP 2 UNDERWENT PHACOEMULSIFICATION WITH OCCI AND TORIC IOL RESPECTIVELY. UCVA, BCVA, MANIFEST REFRACTIVE CYLINDER AND CORNEAL ASTIGMATISM (PENTACAM) WAS MEASURED PREOPERATIVELY AND POSTOPERATIVELY AT 6 WEEKS. 83.3% OF EYES IN GROUP 1 AND 96.7% OF EYES IN GROUP 2 ACHIEVED UCVA OF 6/9 OR BETTER. MEAN REDUCTION IN CORNEAL ASTIGMATISM WAS 0.63± 0.37D IN GROUP 1 AND 0.15±0.12D IN GROUP 2 WHICH WAS STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. RESIDUAL REFRACTIVE CYLINDER WAS 0.6±0.38D IN GROUP 1 AND 0.05±0.15D IN GROUP 2. IN RESOURCE LIMITED SETTING, OCCI IS EFFECTIVE IN CORRECTING PRE EXISTING ASTIGMATISM OF 1-1.5D DURING PHACOEMULSIFICATION.
