FP0343 : Watering eyes after cataract surgery: No I am not crying.

Abstract

Study Design-This cross-sectional study Purpose -The purpose of this study is to review the current modalities in dealing with ocular surface disease in cataract surgery and increasing patient satisfaction postoperatively. METHODS-200 eyes with age-related cataract patients were equally divided into two groups of 100 each. In group I (n=100), patients were done Phaco with PCIOL and in group II (n=100) SICS with PCIOL in one eye. Included patients had Fluorescein Disappearance (FDT) and Taste test in both eyes before the operation. Tear drainage function tests were repeated for one week and one month after surgery in both eyes and obtained data were compared. On any dry eye suspicion, preventive measures are taken pre-, intra, and postoperatively. RESULTS-Proper and timely attention improved visual outcomes and enhanced the satisfaction level of patients. CONCLUSION-Ocular surface disease frequently goes undiagnosed in cataract surgery especially when the patients are asymptomatic.
