FP0327 : Visual outcome in patients treated with steroids for Traumatic optic neuropathy – our experience

Abstract

Purpose:
To analyze the visual outcome in patients with Traumatic optic Neuropathy treated with corticosteroids.
Study Design:
Retrospective study
Methods :
A Retrospective study of 51 patients with TON presented to our tertiary eye care centre in South India between July 2022 to December 2022 was done.
Results:
Out of 51 patients 49 were males (96.1%) and 2 patients were females (3.9%).Most common mode of injury was RTA (82.4%).Out 51 patients,33 patients (64.7%) had orbital and cranial bone fractures ,lateral wall of orbit fracture being most common.13 patients had Intracranial injury(26.3 %)of which SDH being most common .Out of 51 patients ,32 patients (62.7%) were treated with high dose steroids. The median pre treatment BCVA (Logmar1.78) and post treatment BCVA (Logmar1.3)was compared and the difference was found to be statistically significant(P<0.0001).
Conclusions:
There is a significant improvement in BCVA from baseline in those treated with high dose steroids.
